“Ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow.”

Dedicating time and sticking to my “movement” schedule has been a challenge lately. I finally
got into a groove of going to the fitness trainer every Wednesday and Friday to work out with a friend and meeting another friend online for a Peloton ride every Tuesday. Honestly, I felt like I was winning! I had more energy, better mood, less stress, and I was intentionally sculpting the body that I wanted. Somewhere along the path of feeling better, looking good, and getting COVID-19, I fell off. Completely. And, as you know, it’s never just one area that you fall off in. My intentional eating habits drifted right along with my work out routine. Grocery shopping felt more like a chore instead of a mindful routine that sparked joy; the freedom to choose what I put in my body. The thought of cooking sent me into a deep slumber. Taking mindful breaks in my day became a distant cousin. You know, the one you’ve seen before but have no clue who they are. Wild?! I know lol. There’s something about breaking routines that makes it so difficult to just start, again.
I missed a few gym appointments, and my friend called me out. I knew I was showing up less than my best self. I took some time to reflect on my health & wellness vision. In this vision I seen myself physically and mentally healthy, living with ease, and delighting in the now. Then I reviewed my current habits and whether those actions were getting me closer to this vision. Lastly, I assessed what I needed to change, starting with my mindset to align with my vision. I decided to just start. If I bogged myself down with 1 million things, I’d most likely not complete one. I did not originally start with 1 million lifestyle changes on the same day. So, there was no reason I needed to implement the 1 million changes along with the 7 new I had acquired since I began my journey. Starting is and was enough.
My first day back to the gym I couldn’t lift the same weight as I had been able to previously. I extended grace to myself and whispered, “I’m here”. My legs hurt so bad and I spent the next 4 days dragging along as if 10-pound sand bags were tied to them. I extended grace to myself and whispered, “I’m here”. I pulled the juicer from under the cabinet and made a few of my favorites and a few new concoctions too. I said, to myself “I’m here”. The pressure was off to be perfect and I honored my “humanness”, current, and future self by just starting, again.
My health & wellness journey is continuous, ever evolving, and I have the freedom to pause, redirect, and start again. This knowing makes it easier for me to show up authentically and sparks a curiosity to try new things.
If you are feeling stuck or have “fallen off” your routine, grace yourself and give yourself permission to start again. I invite you to answer these questions: What’s your why? What is your vision? How do your current patterns align with that vision? What do you need to do to get you to your “there”? Once you’ve answered these questions, don’t over think it. Just start, again.
I’d love to hear how the journey is going for you! We’re on the journey together.
Peace to you,
