Delight

I’ve decided that there’s nothing better to do than go ahead and have a good time and get the most we can out of lifeEcclesiastes 3:12 MSG

This is the day the LORD has made; let’s rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:23 CSB

Today is it, your last day earth side. Ok, maybe that was a little much. But, could you imagine receiving a message like this? I’m sure so many things would run through your mind such as “wait! I haven’t done…..” or “I need to reconcile my relationship with…” or “I haven’t enjoyed my….” The potential questions are infinite. This morning in my quiet time, I reflected on the sacred gift of life that many times goes unappreciated. How we [humanity] are here, present one moment, then like the wind, gone the next.  Hustle culture normalizes the idea of endless striving to get to a said destination and the false narrative that time will pause or that there’s a limitless supply that can be replenished with the snap of a finger. Hustle culture normalizes the idea that delighting in life’s moments are futile. Yet this way of life leaves many of us with unsatiable desires and starved souls. Complaints flow like running water across every aspect of our lives, yet gratitude lysis before it is birthed. We can decide to delight in life’s beauty and pleasures by slowing down and acknowledging simply what is. This could be a belly laugh with a friend that was unexpected, the taste of your favorite dish, the chirp of birds in the early morning, the rustling of leaves in the cool of the night, a small win at work, or anything else that you acknowledge and affirm. You get to decide. Gratitude gives permission to delight. Gratitude liberates. Gratitude is a melody that resonates and connects souls beyond human understanding. In Ecclesiastes, the teacher reminds us to “seize life!” “take pleasure in life” “Eat with joy” “Enjoy your wife/husband”. In this moment, give yourself permission to delight. Delight in all that this sacred life has to offer from the ease to the complexities.

If you’re open to it, I’d like to invite you to close your eyes and envision yourself experiencing life through the of lens of gratitude. What are you grateful for? Who or what comes to mind? How do you feel? What do you smell? What do you hear? Stay in this moment and take it all in. Delighting is a choice all your own to be experienced.

Peace to you,

Kris
