Juicing has literally been one of the most significant and rewarding practices that I’ve incorporated into my day. I started regularly juicing summer 2020 with the intention of adding more fruits and veges into my diet that I knew otherwise I wouldn’t get. It quickly shifted from the perceived health benefits to the act being a part of my “self-time”.
Saturdays, I wake up early morning excited for my favorite finds such as strawberries, cucumbers, Honey Crisp apples, carrots, blueberries, beets, kale, spinach, and rainbow chard. For me, it starts with sight. The vivid colors intrigue me and I’m completely in awe of all these manifestations of health. The deep greens, shades of red, orange, and purple are captivating. Then, if the sweet smell in the air doesn’t hit me first, the varied textures of each keep me in the present. Some of the produce are smooth and soft, others are rigid and hard. All in all, each looking, smelling, feeling, and tasting exactly how they were meant to. Nothing more, nothing less, yet each a benefit.
When it comes to juicing, I’m like the aunt that makes the dish that everyone loves, but she couldn’t tell you step by step directions or measurements if she tried. Hahahaa. I literally just toss whatever I’m feeling into the juicer and boom! Sis, has made a concoction of sorts. Ahahahhah. This lack of structure keeps me curious and open to the unknown. I usually juice twice a week. Each batch producing about three to four 18 oz bottles.
Along with juicing being a mindfulness practice, I’ve also experienced some amazing health benefits. My digestive health has improved, skin is clearer, and a significant drop in my total cholesterol. I had great cholesterol levels prior, but I’ll take all the wins! I must say, results will be different for everyone. Dependent on your individual health needs, consulting with your health care provider may be helpful.
If you’re considering starting your own juicing practice, below are 3 tips to help get you started:
I hope you enjoy juicing. If you make a juice that excites your taste buds, please share. I’m always looking to expand my library. I’ll also be sharing some of my favorite concoctions. I’ll ensure to start writing down the recipes. Lol.
Peace to you,
Kris
